Every wedding starts with a question, specifically a proposal and we at Mansfield Traquair are always interested to hear about how our couples ask or were asked one of the most important questions of their lives. For your enjoyment, and for inspiration, here are our favourite proposal stories. Whilst not every proposal needs to be an extravagant affair, it certainly makes for a good story (and blog)!
The extended proposal
Who doesn’t love a jigsaw? If you’re so inclined, this could be the perfect puzzle for you. One of our ever so thoughtful grooms had a custom jigsaw made to pop the question. During the course of their relationship during important moments, our groom gave his partner groom no.2 a single piece. The centre piece of the puzzle was given on the day the proposal was made with the message spelling out ‘will you marry me?’ This look place over two years and we can only imagine the suspense! At the end of the wedding, our groom gave his new husband the final piece, a token of their love, devotion and a reminder of a very well-planned proposal!
The 24th day of advent proposal
On the first day of Christmas my true love gave to me … a ring? The festive season brings out the best in all of us, so what better time to propose than when surrounded by your friends and family! Our colleague was proposed to in an adorable fashion. Knowing his bride was a foodie through and through, he cleverly disguised the ring in box number 24. What a fantastic Christmas present!
The sitting on the pier proposal
It’s the little things in life that make us happy. The cold side of the pillow or getting that last biscuit from the tin. This groom knew his intended so well that he took her to a pier on a sunny day where they sat relaxing, dipping their toes in the water and eating a tasty paper-wrapped fish and chip supper with cold beers. After chatting away as they usually do, he popped the question with a beautiful family ring much to her delight.
The friends and family proposal
Family and friends are so important at a wedding, they are the ones who wish you the best and the witnesses to the commitment you’re about to make. With this in mind, is there a better way to propose than with friends and family in tow, a skiing holiday. After a long day on the slopes, the soon-to-be bride returned only to find the party dressed to the nines, which was followed by a proposal with an important heirloom ring.
