Thistle Awards - Business Tourism Award - 2006

Scotland’s top tourism businesses for 2006 were named at a glittering Awards Ceremony and Gala Dinner at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre on 27th October. Jackie Bird and Tam Cowan hosted the evening, with over 800 people attending the renowned tourism ‘Oscars’.

Earlier in the year, forty-five businesses were short listed, with sixteen businesses taking home the top awards on the night. 

Now in their 15th year, the awards were created by VisitScotland to recognise and celebrate excellence and quality in one of Scotland’s most important industries, and they are widely recognised as one of the top accolades a tourism business can receive.

Heritage Portfolio were announced as the winners of the Business Tourisim Award. This award was open to businesses in the conference, meetings or incentive sector, including destinations, venues, incentive houses and professional conference organisers, event or destination management companies and support service providers. Entrants has to be able to demonstrate success through an innovative and specific marketing initiative, the organisation or promotion of an event, or product development. The focus could be domestic, national or international. Judges were looking for clear objectives, detailed research, creative marketing techniques and rigorous evaluation procedures.
