We had a fabulous season of magical winter weddings at Mansfield Traquair. We’ve helped to create some very special big days – one of which was just days before Christmas and provided an opportunity to present Mansfield in all its glittering, sparkling glory.

When Vicky and Chris visited our Wedding Open Day in January of last year they fell in love. With Mansfield of course, they were already in love with each other! Although they are from the north of England both have friends in Edinburgh and felt it was the perfect city to create their dream wedding in. And we can only agree – there are few spots more romantic than the heart of Edinburgh and Mansfield Traquair’s unique interior is one of the loveliest spots in which to celebrate ‘I do’.

Sculptural and sparkling winter flower arrangements by Planet Flowers made a statement with wintery white eucalyptus, snowy branches and storm lanterns. The mother-of-the-bride’s request for that most iconic winter flower – red poinsettias – created a dramatic and seasonal colour foil to the softly sparkling whites and muted greens on the tables, plinths and aisles. Red candles and poinsettias lined the entrance and welcomed guests on the cold winter’s day.

As guests arrived in the afternoon they were welcomed with warm mulled wine and seated for a Humanist ceremony in the Baldacchino where Vicky and Chris were married. Afterwards while everyone enjoyed a champagne reception the stage was reset for a spectacular dinner.

Ivory and white linens with muted sage green taffeta chair ties complemented the winter theme. The bride chose hand-cut cards for her tables, each featuring a favourite Christmas song. In true Heritage Portfolio style, a dazzling meal was presented. Canapés of slow roast pork sambal with whipped paprika essence, haggis bonbons and dainty beef Wellingtons were followed by a mouth-watering menu of roasted wild rabbit loin with Mull Cheddar rarebit; poached quail egg, aioli, lambs leaf and shaved truffle on fennel toast; and roasted red leg partridge, barley risotto and Chantaney carrots served with a tarte tatin of plum au jus. Dessert was the infamous Heritage hot and gooey chocolate tart, served with pistachio custard and crisp sugar wafers.

The bride and groom chose a traditional wedding cake as well as the increasingly popular ‘cheese cake’ which presents the cheese course in a large, tiered wedding cake style. Following their meal guests were treated to the Seattle Wedding Band and danced the rest of the night away in celebration of Vicky and Chris and their big, beautiful day!

“We just want to say thank you yet again for all your help for making yesterday so special we and everyone else had an amazing time. Thanks again.”– Vicky
